Early morning thoughts...

about 3:00 am: Is that Baby Girl? Oh it's going to be one of those nights...
about 4:15 am: Again? Is she hot? Is she cold? Is she getting sick? She sounds a little snuffly...
about 8:00 am: Hmmm... what's that? That explains it! A blueberry up the nose!

Sometimes it's just a bad mommy morning.

Budding artist

She is such a little artist. She loves to draw. Thank goodness for sidewalk chalk. We draw outside. We draw inside. It's great, especially after a boy who is absolutely unintested in anything art/craft related. I really like this chalk that is egg shaped. It fits her little hands just right.

Dresses for orphans

LDS Humanitarian Services prepares modules of clothing, toys, quilts etc. for orphanages around the world. The clothes are to be new, well made, and simple for every day use. The guidelines for the clothing are here. There are many parts of the world where girls wear dresses every day. They especially need dresses in larger sizes, size 12-16 for older girls. Here is my contribution. Just in case you have some "extra" time for additional projects, this is a worthy cause.

Book of done

My sister and law and her sewing group have a book for pictures of their finished projects. They call it "The Book of Done". Here is my latest entry in my blog Book of Done, one of the skirts from the fabric I bought at Hearts a while back. It is simple and great, but I am a little rusty. I had to redo the darts and the waistband. I essentially had to do the skirt twice. Oh well. I like the end result. Better luck next time.

C day

I decided that with preschool ending we needed a little academic work for the summer. Nothing fancy or difficult or anything that takes time to prep. So thanks to Sesame Street we have the letter of the day. We talk about words that start with the letter of the day and write some of them down. He gets to practice writing it himself. For C day we had macaroni and Cheese for lunch and Chicken soup for dinner. We even made Chocolate Chip oatmeal Cookies. We are also working on his numbers. He counts to 29 but skips 14 and thinks that 20 20 is the biggest number ever, except for 20 20 20.

Breakfast or dessert?

Bread pudding. Like a combination of cake and french toast. Two of my favorite things, all in one. After cleaning out the freezer I found several loaves of rather stale bread. We had stuffing a couple of times and then this tasty treat. Still more bits of dry bread in the freezer. Any more ideas?

Kid cooking

I made this little kiddie stove last Christmas when I saw the prices on similar toys at the store. It is a serving tray from the clearance aisle with a little paint and some wooden knobs on the front. The decorations are just black and silver Sharpie markers. The pans are from Ikea. It doesn't have a microwave oven, but oh well I can only do so much with a Sharpie.

Yum

Happy birthday to me. We celebrated with the practically perfect dessert.

oat bread

I had some oatmeal that was getting a little old so I have been baking with it. I love oatmeal cookies, but I only need so many of those around the house, so I added it to my regular bread recipe in place of some of the white bread flour. I really like what it did, a little nutty, a little more texture, whole grain, but not as harsh as whole wheat can be. I blended the oats to make a course oat flour rather than use the bigger pieces of the old fashioned oatmeal. I replaced somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of the flour with the oats, I wasn't really measuring.

Oh, and it makes fabulous French toast, just in case you were wondering.
