Soccer interrupted

One of the things I love about living where I do is that there are a lot of rather geeky nerdy people around, just like me.  Not in the "geek chic" hipster sense of the word, but in the interesting, sciencey, and intellectually vibrant sort of way.  A small example of this happened today when one of the soccer moms just happened to bring her telescope to soccer practice so that we could all observe the solar eclipse.  I was prepared with my pin-hole in foil, but the telescope was much better.

You could even see the eclipse in the shapes on the sidewalk as the light came through the trees.  Very cool.
