Our most recent book club meeting was all about kid's books, what our kids are reading lately. The books they read (or I read to them) show some of their favorite things.
Buddy Boy is in to detectives, dinosaurs, dogs, comics, and of course Legos. He spends hours with his Legos. He builds and plays and enters his own world with Police Jones, Robert Jones, Hunter Dan and Pilot Dan. He wants to go to Lego Land, but I'm afraid that he will be terribly disappointed when it isn't the land where Legos come to life.
His favorite books include the Encyclopedia Brown and Henry and Mudge series. Calvin and Hobbes is still a favorite. He picked up a Far Side book from Grammie and GrandDad's house. He likes to read it but he doesn't get most of it. After a four week series of dinosaur centers in school he says that he is a paleontologist and loves all things dino. He came home from the library with a dozen dino books from the easy reader section and read or looked through them all. One of my favorites is Open Me... I'm a Dog. A dog tells his story of how he was transformed in to a book by an evil wizard. Very cute.
Baby Girl loves princesses, pink, ponies, purple, kitties, and there seems to be a bear theme in her favorite books. On a carousel we rode last fall there was a pink and purple horse. She promptly named it princess and has been talking about it ever since. I keep the princess things to a minimum and seriously avoid the Disney and Barbie versions. But in her mind she is a princess, a sword wielding, dragon slaying dancing princess.
